We always try to hit the little carnivals that pop up around the lake. It keeps life interesting! This year we made it to the Old Settler’s Reunion in Quitman. This was the 111th reunion and it’s amazing to me that this event has been going on so long that the original visitors arrived by horse and buggy. The Wood County Genealogical Society actually has pictures of people in their carts going to the reunion.

These days the event has carnival rides, games and fair food brought in and set up at the Jim Hogg City Park. There were vendors selling crafts, as well as local businesses. You could even play bingo with the Kiwanis Club. Thursday night featured a talent show and Friday night will feature the Pleasant Mountain Boys gospel and bluegrass band.

It was raining while we were there, so we couldn’t stay very long. We played some games, but the rides were shut down due to the weather. TJ won a goldfish, so I’d say it was a pretty successful outing considering the weather.
